The London-based firm Collingwood & Co. was considered as a back-up and rival to the Crown Jewellers, Garrard’s, fulfilling numerous royal commissions for official gifts, presentation pieces and Orders throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The firm was founded in 1817 by the jeweller Joseph Kitching, and underwent several changes over its history, spanning nearly two centuries. Trading as Kitching & Abud from 46 Counduit Street in in 1830, the firm changed to Abud & Collingwood in 1853, and then to Collingwood & Co. from 1876 until 1924. The company eventually moved to 171 New Bond Street, and finally closed in 2004.
